What OpenAI has confirmed
OpenAI announced DevDay 2026 on 2 August. The event will take place on Tuesday 29 September in San Francisco. Its event page describes DevDay as the company's biggest event of the year and invites people to sign up for a notification when applications open.

OpenAI has not said when applications will open. Registering for the notification does not appear to be an application or a ticket purchase.
What remains unknown
The announcement contains no venue, programme, speaker list, attendance capacity or price. It also says nothing about a livestream, session recordings or regional events. Developers planning travel should wait for those details before treating attendance as confirmed.
More importantly, OpenAI has not attached any product names to DevDay 2026. There is no official basis for saying that GPT-5.7, GPT-6, Astra or another model will launch at the event. One concrete, confirmed data point has emerged since this article was first published: OpenAI launched its Agents API in public beta on 10 September 2026, putting the Codex harness behind a managed API call for cloud-hosted agents. It is not officially billed as a DevDay preview, but unreleased app code examined by third parties suggests a further, more consumer-facing "Managed Agents" layer could surface at the event itself.
What developers should watch
DevDay is a developer event, so the most useful questions concern products that can be built with, not simply a headline model name. OpenAI's current platform has active work across Codex, APIs, agents, apps and enterprise controls. Any of those areas could feature, but none has been promised for DevDay.

What happened at DevDay 2025
The 2025 event took place on 6 October at Fort Mason in San Francisco. OpenAI said more than 1,500 developers would attend, charged $650 for accepted attendees and livestreamed the keynote. Other sessions were recorded.
Product announcements included apps in ChatGPT and the Apps SDK, AgentKit, Sora 2 in the API and the general availability of Codex. OpenAI's later updates also show why launch-day coverage needs maintenance: parts of AgentKit were subsequently scheduled for retirement, while Codex and the Agents SDK continued to evolve.
Last year is useful context, but it is not a template. The 2026 venue, price, capacity and broadcast plan remain unconfirmed until OpenAI publishes them.

The safest route is OpenAI's official DevDay page. It currently contains a form to receive application updates. Be cautious with unofficial ticket pages or travel claims while OpenAI has not published a venue or registration process.
