ChatGPT Pricing: Every Plan Compared

As of 29/09/2026, ChatGPT has ten plans: Free ($0), Go ($8/month), Plus ($20/month), Pro 100 ($100/month), Pro 200 ($200/month), Pro 500 ($500/month), Business Standard ($25/seat/month), Business Premium ($125/seat/month) and custom-priced Enterprise and Edu. Business seats are $5 and $25 cheaper respectively when billed annually. The table below is the quick version; the sections that follow explain the detail.

UK customers pay OpenAI's list price plus 20% VAT, charged in pounds at checkout, so ChatGPT Plus costs about £19.20 a month including VAT (£16 before VAT). OpenAI's public pricing page shows US dollars; the pound figure you actually pay is set at checkout and can shift slightly with exchange rates. The Plus figure below is the one reported by UK price trackers from OpenAI's own checkout. Every other row is our approximate conversion at about £0.75 per $1, so treat those as budgeting estimates, not quotes.

Two practical points for UK buyers. First, if your business is VAT-registered and you buy Business seats, add your VAT number at checkout: OpenAI shows VAT as a separate invoice line, which you can reclaim in the normal way. Second, the Plus figure implies OpenAI's UK storefront uses a slightly less favourable rate than a straight market conversion (£16 for $20 is £0.80 per $1), so do not assume the pound price will move with the exchange rate every month. Always check the figure on the checkout page before you commit.

UK Free and Go users should also know that ChatGPT ads launched in the UK on 11 August 2026. OpenAI says ads appear only for logged-in adults on Free and Go; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu are ad-free. For some people, dropping ads is the main reason to pay for Plus.

DevDay 2026 changed ChatGPT's paid plans in four ways: a new $500 Pro tier with Ultrafast, a reopened but reduced $200 Pro tier, Dots agents for Pro and Business Premium, and GPT-6.1 Sol in ChatGPT Work and Codex for every paid plan from Plus up. These are the details that matter for pricing.

1. Pro 500: $500 a month with Ultrafast

Pro 500 is a new $500-a-month individual plan and, according to The Next Web, "the only Pro plan with Ultrafast". OpenAI describes Ultrafast as "our premium speed tier for workloads where speed matters most" (Engadget). It generates up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, up to eight times faster than standard, and up to six times faster in the API. VentureBeat reports that GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available now in the API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Pro 500 and Enterprise, with GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast "due in the coming days". OpenAI's recap, as surfaced in search results, says Pro 500 carries the highest allowance at 25 times Plus; we could not load that page directly, so treat the exact multiplier as reported rather than independently confirmed.

2. Pro 200 reopens, but with half the allowance

OpenAI paused new sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 Pro plan on 10/09/2026 because of what product lead Thibault Sottiaux called "unprecedented" demand for GPT-6 Astra (Fortune). At DevDay it reopened Pro 200, but on new terms. From 30 October 2026, Pro 200's included usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex "falls from 20 times to 10 times the Plus allowance", and Pro-model chat messages fall from 200 to 100 a week. Existing subscribers "keep their current limits until 29 October and get a one-time grant of usage credits worth $2,500, which expire at the end of the year", per The Next Web. OpenAI also said it will not reintroduce Pro 200's five-hour limit, so usage is measured against a weekly cap.

3. Dots arrive on Pro and Business Premium

Dots are always-on agents, powered by GPT-6 Astra, that run on their own cloud computer and can be reached through ChatGPT, text messages, Slack, Teams or a phone call. The first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost, and conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. 4. GPT-6.1 Sol for every paid plan (in Work and Codex)

GPT-6.1 Sol is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, but not yet in the main ChatGPT chat window (The Next Web). OpenAI positions it as near-Astra performance at a fifth of the token price, which matters for subscribers because cheaper models stretch the same allowance further. The other DevDay launches, including ChatGPT Space, @ChatGPT for Slack and Teams and Team Tasks, are covered in our DevDay 2026 recap.

ChatGPT Free ($0)

ChatGPT Free is the no-cost tier and uses OpenAI's smallest Luna models by default, with caps on uploads, images, voice and tools. Recent reporting describes regular text chat on Free as effectively uncapped, subject to abuse guardrails, while heavier features are rationed. The trade-off in the UK is ads: logged-in adults on Free may see sponsored placements below answers. Free is fine for occasional questions, drafting and learning what ChatGPT can do, but it does not include ChatGPT Work or Codex with the GPT-6 family.

ChatGPT Go ($8 a month)

Go is OpenAI's budget paid tier at $8 a month (approx. £7.20 inc. VAT). It uses the same Luna-class default model as Free but lifts the limits on messages with tools, uploads and image generation, and adds longer memory. It still shows ads, and it does not include the agentic features, ChatGPT Work and Codex access, that make Plus worthwhile for professional use. Go makes sense if you use ChatGPT daily for simple tasks and keep hitting Free's upload or image caps.

ChatGPT Plus ($20 a month)

Plus is the standard individual plan at $20 a month, about £19.20 including UK VAT, and it is the reference point every other plan is measured against. It removes ads, unlocks the full tool suite (deep research, image generation, voice, file analysis, projects and memory), and gives access to ChatGPT Work and Codex with GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6 Luna and now GPT-6.1 Sol. Plus does not include Dots, Ultrafast or the Pro reasoning model in chat, and at DevDay OpenAI said Plus users can read and share ChatGPT Space pages but not create them (Decrypt).

ChatGPT Pro 100 ($100 a month)

Pro 100 launched on 09/04/2026 as a middle tier aimed squarely at Anthropic's $100 Claude Max plan (TechCrunch). OpenAI's help centre describes it as "5x higher usage than Plus", with the same core Pro features as the $200 tier, including Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads (as quoted by Mixed). Pro 100 stayed on sale throughout the Pro 200 pause, and as a Pro plan it now includes the first dot in eligible markets.

ChatGPT Pro 200 ($200 a month)

Pro 200 is the original ChatGPT Pro plan. Until 29 October 2026 it offers 20 times Plus usage in ChatGPT Work and Codex and 200 Pro-model chat messages a week. From 30 October it drops to 10 times Plus and 100 messages a week. That leaves Pro 200 at twice Pro 100's allowance for twice the price, which removes the volume discount that used to make it the obvious choice for heavy users. Existing subscribers get a one-time credit grant to soften the change.

ChatGPT Pro 500 ($500 a month)

Pro 500 is the new top individual plan. Its two selling points are the largest included allowance of any individual plan and exclusive access, among Pro plans, to GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast in ChatGPT Work and Codex. It is built for developers and operators running long agentic sessions where waiting on the model is the bottleneck. At approximately £450 a month including VAT, it is priced above most UK software budgets for an individual, and the value case rests almost entirely on whether speed saves you paid time.

ChatGPT Business: Standard and Premium seats

ChatGPT Business (formerly Team) is the self-serve plan for organisations, with a two-seat minimum. Standard seats cost $25 per user a month, or $20 billed annually. Premium seats, introduced on 25/08/2026, cost $125 a month or $100 billed annually and give "five times the included usage" of Standard, remove the five-hour usage limit and add predictable weekly resets (RuntimeWire). You can mix Standard and Premium seats in one workspace and reassign them. OpenAI notes that Premium "does not increase the limit for every model or feature", and that Business does not support invoices, purchase orders or negotiated terms; those need Enterprise. Since DevDay, Business Premium is also the most accessible way for UK users to get Dots.

ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu (custom pricing)

Enterprise and Edu are sales-led plans with no public price. Enterprise adds SSO and SCIM, data residency options, analytics, contractual commitments and the ability to buy by invoice. After DevDay it also gets GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast in Work and Codex and a Dots beta that workspace admins can switch on. Edu gets GPT-6.1 Sol in Work and Codex, and eligible Edu and Healthcare organisations can try the Dots beta when an admin enables it (The Next Web). For pricing, you need to contact OpenAI sales.

ChatGPT usage limits are now expressed mainly as multiples of the Plus allowance, measured weekly, rather than as fixed message counts. OpenAI does not publish a single fixed number of messages for Plus, and limits vary by model and feature, with agentic work in ChatGPT Work and Codex using far more of your allowance than a normal chat. The published multipliers are the most reliable way to compare plans.

Model availability in the chat window has shifted several times since GPT-6 Astra launched on 04/09/2026, and third-party reports disagree on exactly which default model Plus sees in chat. Check the model picker in your own account.

One honest caveat on limits: a multiplier is only as useful as the baseline it multiplies, and OpenAI adjusts the Plus baseline without much notice. GPT-6 Astra's computer-use features consume allowances quickly, which is part of why OpenAI paused Pro 200 sign-ups in September. If you rely on ChatGPT for long agentic sessions, check the usage meter in settings during your first week on a plan, and read our guide to choosing between Sol, Astra and Luna. Dots are included on ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, with the first dot at no extra cost; Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare can try a beta once an admin enables it. Dots are not available on Free, Go, Plus or Business Standard seats.

The UK detail is the part most coverage skips. According to OpenAI's Introducing dots announcement, as reported by The Next Web, Business Premium users get dots in "all supported ChatGPT regions", but for Pro users the eligible markets "do not currently include the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK". A UK individual paying for Pro 100, 200 or 500 therefore does not currently get Dots, while a UK company paying for Business Premium seats does. If Dots is the reason you are considering Pro, a Business workspace with Premium seats is currently the route for UK users. That still needs two paid seats, but one can be a cheaper Standard seat.

On cost, OpenAI has said the first dot is included and that additional dots will be purchasable later, but it has not published a price for extra dots. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, though tasks a dot runs in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. A dot is created in the ChatGPT desktop app and can then be reached from mobile, Slack, Teams, text message or phone call (9to5Google).

ChatGPT Pro is worth it only if you regularly run out of Plus allowance in ChatGPT Work or Codex, or you need the Pro reasoning model or Ultrafast for paid work. For everyone else, Plus at $20 covers the same tools with a smaller allowance. Here is how each tier stacks up after the DevDay changes.

• Pro 100 is now the best-value Pro tier. Five times Plus for five times the price keeps the per-unit cost the same as Plus, and you gain the Pro reasoning model and (outside the UK, EEA and Switzerland) a dot. If you hit Plus limits a few times a week, this is the upgrade.
• Pro 200 is hard to recommend for new subscribers. From 30/10/2026 it offers 10x Plus for 10x the price, the same unit cost as Pro 100 and Plus, plus 100 Pro-model messages a week. Its old appeal was a bulk discount (20x for 10x the price), and that is gone. Existing subscribers should use the credit grant before it expires at the end of 2026 and then reassess.
• Pro 500 is a speed purchase. If Ultrafast cuts the time you spend waiting on Codex or Work by hours a week, $500 (approx. £450 inc. VAT) can pay for itself for a contractor or engineer. If you do not need the speed, Pro 100 or 200 gives more allowance per pound.
• For UK buyers, Business Premium may beat Pro. At $125 a seat monthly ($100 annually) it gives five times Standard usage, no five-hour limit, and Dots in the UK. You need at least two seats, but a Premium plus a Standard seat costs $150 a month, less than Pro 200.

A useful rule of thumb: if you spend fewer than about five hours a week in ChatGPT Work or Codex, Pro is unlikely to pay back. If you are a full-time developer living in Codex, compare Pro 100 with Anthropic's Claude Code on a Max plan before deciding. Most individuals should choose Plus, heavy Codex or Work users should choose Pro 100, and teams should choose Business with Premium seats only for their heaviest users. The table below matches common personas to a plan.

If you mainly want ChatGPT inside your company's Slack or Teams, note that DevDay's @ChatGPT for Slack and Microsoft Teams lets teammates use it without needing their own licence, according to The Next Web. That can reduce how many seats a Business workspace needs.

OpenAI API pricing is separate from ChatGPT subscriptions and is charged per million tokens: GPT-6 Astra costs $10 input / $50 output, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6.1 Sol cost $2 / $10, and GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 / $0.50. A ChatGPT plan does not include API usage, and Business Premium explicitly excludes it. These are OpenAI's standard rates from its developer pricing page, checked 29/09/2026; approximate pound figures are at £0.75 per $1, before VAT.

The standout for developers is GPT-6.1 Sol: the same $2 / $10 headline rate as GPT-6 Sol, with cached input halved to $0.10, and OpenAI claims near-Astra coding results for about a fifth of Astra's price. Ultrafast is the opposite trade: six times the standard rate for up to six times faster generation in the API. ChatGPT and Claude are priced almost identically at the entry and mid tiers, with Plus and Claude Pro both at $20 and ChatGPT Pro 100 matching Claude Max 5x at $100, but ChatGPT now reaches higher, to $500, and has a cheaper $8 tier. The table compares like for like.

The most striking difference is at the top. Anthropic's most expensive individual plan is still $200, and it responded to its own capacity pressure in September by raising five-hour limits on Pro, Max and Team when Claude Opus 5.5 launched. OpenAI went the other way: it cut the $200 tier's allowance and added a $500 tier. On like-for-like team seats the two companies are now priced identically, so the choice comes down to features. ChatGPT has Dots, Ultrafast, image generation and a broader consumer app; Claude has Claude Code, Cowork and a much cheaper flagship API model.

You cancel ChatGPT where you subscribed: on the web through Settings, or through Apple or Google Play if you paid in the mobile app. Paid features normally continue until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.

1. Web or desktop: open chatgpt.com, click your profile, go to Settings, then the Account (or Subscription) section, choose Manage, and select Cancel subscription or pick a different plan.
2. iPhone or iPad: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose ChatGPT and cancel. OpenAI cannot cancel App Store billing for you.
3. Android: open Google Play, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, ChatGPT, and cancel.
4. Business workspaces: an owner or admin changes seat counts and seat types (Standard or Premium) in the workspace admin settings. The two-seat minimum still applies.

A few things to check before you downgrade. Pro 200 subscribers who drop to Pro 100 or Plus lose their pre-30-October limits straight away, and it is not yet clear from OpenAI's public statements whether the one-time credit grant survives a downgrade, so confirm in your account first. Before the DevDay reopening, OpenAI's rule was that lapsed Pro 200 subscribers could rejoin only once within 30 days (Mixed); that matters less now that Pro 200 is open again, but it shows that OpenAI can close tiers at short notice. Downgrading to Free or Go brings back ads in the UK and removes ChatGPT Work and Codex with the GPT-6 family. Your chat history stays, but export anything important from ChatGPT Space or projects before you lose the ability to edit.

ChatGPT pricing after DevDay 2026 splits into three groups. Free and Go are ad-supported and suit casual use. Plus at $20 (about £19.20 in the UK) is still the right plan for most people. Pro is now a three-tier ladder at $100, $200 and $500, where Pro 100 is the value pick, Pro 200 has lost its bulk discount, and Pro 500 is a speed product for people whose time is expensive. For businesses, Standard seats at $25 ($20 annual) and Premium seats at $125 ($100 annual) mirror Anthropic's Team pricing almost exactly.

The UK-specific point is the one to remember: if Dots is what you want, a Business Premium seat gets it in the UK and a Pro subscription currently does not. Everything else, including model access in chat, the Pro 500 multiplier and the price of extra dots, is still settling after today's announcements.
